Bravo Esophageal Testing - Acid Reflux & Heartburn - Orange County

EASY TESTING FOR ACID REFLUX DISEASE

We perform esophageal testing using the Bravo pH test to determine if you have gastroesophageal acid reflux disease, also known as GERD and heartburn. We also use this test to determine the effectiveness of medication or surgical treatment for GERD.

WHAT IS ESOPHAGEAL ACID REFLUX?

Esophageal acid reflux is a condition in which stomach acid moves back up into the esophagus, the "food pipe" leading from the mouth to the stomach. We attach a small capsule, the size of a gel cap, to the wall of the esophagus during an upper endoscopy. The capsule measures pH levels in the esophagus and transmits readings to a receiver the size of a pager worn on your belt or waistband.

HOW THE BRAVO SYSTEM WORKS

The receiver has several buttons that you will press to record your symptoms such as heartburn. We will tell you which symptoms to record. You will maintain a diary to record events such as eating and drinking, when you lie down and when you get up. We will explain which events you should record in your diary. You will return the receiver and diary after your monitoring period. We download the information on your receiver and diary to a computer and analyze the results.
